Appointed to develop proposals for the redevelopment of a Grade II listed collection of office buildings, while retaining retail use at ground floor level.
Situated in a prominent position on Henley-in-Arden’s high street, the buildings had suffered from extensive internal alteration and subdivision over the course of the last century, resulting in the loss of much of their original character and defined layout.
Following detailed analysis of the building fabric and historic plan form, much of the original internal arrangement was reinstated to deliver five distinctive, contemporary apartments with minimal intervention to the existing structure.
New additions, including kitchens, bathrooms and staircases, were intentionally designed as modern elements, visually and materially distinct from the historic fabric. Key heritage features, such as exposed timber structures and brick fireplaces, were exposed and celebrated, providing a rich contrast to the clean, minimal refurbishment.
