Approached by The Scouting Group to design a new facility as the existing prefabricated post-war building had exceeded its intended lifespan, no longer providing suitable toilet, welfare or safeguarding conditions for a community organisation.
The proposal introduced a new building with comparable activity space, arranged across two levels to support archery, shooting, sports and team-building. This required a two-storey structure incorporating an accessible lift, staircase, welfare facilities and updated child protection and safety provision.
The building is conceived as a single carved form, its massing shaped to maximise the usable 3D space for community activities, and constructed using a palette of brick and metal cladding.
Located in Old Town, the design reflects the character and ambition of the modern Scouting movement while sitting confidently alongside the neighbouring Victorian terraces and within the wider Conservation Area.
