Run by the Hosking Houses Trust as a retreat for female writers, the cottage was extended with a contemporary single-storey addition, enabling the Trust to expand its offering and accommodate a wider range of artists, including painters and
musicians.

The proposals focused on maximising natural light within a compact space to create a calm, functional environment that met the client’s specific brief.

An understated contemporary aesthetic was adopted, using materials sympathetic to the character of the cottage and its historic village setting, known as The Square.
