Chestnut Walk

Stratford-upon-Avon

Client:  Spitfire Bespoke Homes

Contract:  N/A

Role:  Architect, RIBA Work Stages A – E

Studio Spicer Architects was commissioned to design the redevelopment of a former doctor’s surgery, in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon.

The site was heavily constrained, both spatially and because of conservation considerations. It is attached to Grade II listed, Georgian-style, Trinity College and surrounded on all sides by other listed properties.

The design was conceived as a row of townhouses, with basement and rooftop accommodation, maximising the site’s potential.

The south façade is heavily glazed and each dwelling uniquely fenestrated, with subtle variations of mass articulation.

Danish Petersen* bricks were specified, to provide a unique colour and texture, its slimmer, longer format helping to distinguish the building, within its historic context.

Completed 2016.
